In underwater levels, the outline of Lakitu's cloud is colored gray like with all green enemies encountered there, including the "green" Cheep Cheeps, but this is reverted in the Super Mario All-Stars version, where all green enemies are colored normally regardless of what level environment they appear in. They also sometimes appear underwater, as seen in World 9. However, in some of the later levels, Lakitu appears lower in the sky, making it easier for Mario or Luigi to defeat him. They retain the same appearance and throw Spinies in the same way they did in the predecessor, however, they are slightly darker. If the player is about to reach the flagpole, then Lakitu stops chasing them, and simply disappears offscreen. After being defeated, it eventually respawns if the player remains idle too long. ![]() Only one Lakitu is present on screen at any given time, and they can be defeated by either a stomp for 800 points or a fireball for 200 points. Lakitus first appear in World 4-1 in this game, where they simply move back and forth at the top of the screen, ducking into their clouds to drop Spiny Eggs (which hatch into adult Spinies upon collision with the ground).
